VICENZA, Italy – Soldiers from the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater) recently earned the Army’s top maintenance award as they prepare to move to a new post, Caserma Matteo Miotto in Longare.

There is a lot going on and the 207th Soldiers are certainly keeping busy. The Army has noticed, awarding them this year’s Army Award Maintenance Excellence in the small unit category.

“The award looks at every aspect of maintenance, from vehicle to weapons and software,” said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Brandon Cox, who oversees brigade maintenance. “It is also a lengthy process that goes through several phases and overall takes almost one year to complete.”

While the unit received the award, some Soldiers got a special recognition. One of them, Spc. Dominik Honarvar, earned a Chief of Staff coin. He oversees the battery management program. Honarvar recovers batteries and makes sure they are used to their full potential; this reduces waste and saves the government money, he said.

“Every evaluation is an opportunity to improve and get better,” Honarvar said. “I always try to stay adaptable and try to implement every request as quickly and as efficiently as possible.”

The award comes at a time when the brigade is busy supporting Southern European Task Force Africa and planning their move to Caserma Miotto, six miles south of Vicenza.

In 2016 the brigade was originally activated in Longare. In 2020 they moved to Caserma Ederle, due while renovation occurred.

In May 2024, the U.S. Army together with the Italian military, dedicated the post to Corporal Major Matteo Miotto, an Italian soldier from the Vicenza area who died fighting in Afghanistan in 2010. At Caserma Miotto the 207th MI will not only have a brand-new maintenance facility, but also additional office space and training area.
