WASHINGTON - In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt awarded the Medals of Honor to Pvt. Simon Harris and Pvt. James W. McIntyre for their actions in the American-Philippine War. Senator (now Governor) Michael (Mike) Kent Braun and Senator John Anthony Barrasso sent Secretary Christine Wormuth a letter informing her that the U.S. Army Soldiers had never received their medals. On Jan. 8, 2025, President Joe Biden approved Secretary Wormuth's request to delegate his authority to present the previously awarded Medals of Honor. Secretary Wormuth was honored to inform their families of the decision this week by telephone. The Army is working closely with Senator Barrasso and Governor Braun to deliver the Medals of Honor to their families in a meaningful manner.
